Terms of Service — FinExpense

Summary: FinExpense is provided free of charge as an open-source project. You use it at your own risk. We make no guarantees about accuracy of AI-generated outputs. Always verify financial data independently.

1. Acceptance of Terms

By accessing or using FinExpense (“the Service”), you agree to be bound by these Terms of Service. If you do not agree to these terms, do not use the Service.

These terms apply to the hosted instance at expense.sarmadzhiev.com and to any self-hosted instances of the FinExpense software.

2. Description of Service

FinExpense is an AI-powered expense and invoice management platform that provides:

Automated receipt parsing and data extraction
Bank statement import and categorization
AI-powered conversational query interface
Invoice lifecycle management
Salesforce CRM integration
Model Context Protocol (MCP) tool exposure

3. Open Source License

The FinExpense software is available on GitHub. The source code is provided under the terms of its repository license. These Terms of Service apply to use of the hosted service and do not supersede open-source license terms for self-hosted deployments.

4. AI-Generated Content Disclaimer

Important: FinExpense uses large language models (Claude, GPT-4o) to process and analyze financial data. AI-generated outputs may contain errors, omissions, or hallucinations. All financial figures, categorizations, and summaries generated by AI must be independently verified before use in accounting, tax preparation, or any financial decision-making.

We expressly disclaim any liability for financial losses, tax errors, or other consequences arising from reliance on AI-generated outputs without independent verification.

5. Acceptable Use

You agree to use FinExpense only for lawful purposes. You must not:

Use the Service to process data you do not have the right to process
Attempt to reverse-engineer, scrape, or abuse the API endpoints
Use the Service to facilitate money laundering, tax evasion, or financial fraud
Share access credentials with unauthorized parties
Upload malicious files or attempt to exploit the document parsing pipeline
Use automated scripts to make excessive requests that degrade service performance

6. Financial Data and Privacy

You are responsible for the accuracy and legality of all financial data you input into FinExpense. You represent that you have the right to process any data uploaded to the Service. Please review our Privacy Policy for details on how data is handled.

7. Third-Party Services

The Service integrates with third-party providers including Anthropic, OpenAI, Auth0, and optionally Salesforce. Your use of these integrations is also subject to the respective third-party terms of service. We are not responsible for the actions, availability, or data practices of these third parties.

8. Intellectual Property

The FinExpense software, branding, and documentation are the intellectual property of Nikolay Sarmadzhiev and Narayan S, except where explicitly open-sourced. You retain ownership of all financial data you input into the Service.

9. Availability and Uptime

The Service is provided on a best-effort basis. We do not guarantee any specific uptime, availability, or performance SLA. The Service may be interrupted for maintenance, updates, or due to circumstances beyond our control. We are not liable for any losses resulting from Service unavailability.

10. Limitation of Liability

TO THE MAXIMUM EXTENT PERMITTED BY APPLICABLE LAW, FINEXPENSE AND ITS AUTHORS SHALL NOT BE LIABLE FOR ANY INDIRECT, INCIDENTAL, SPECIAL, CONSEQUENTIAL, OR PUNITIVE DAMAGES, INCLUDING WITHOUT LIMITATION LOSS OF PROFITS, DATA, OR BUSINESS OPPORTUNITIES, ARISING OUT OF OR RELATED TO YOUR USE OF THE SERVICE, EVEN IF ADVISED OF THE POSSIBILITY OF SUCH DAMAGES.

IN NO EVENT SHALL OUR AGGREGATE LIABILITY EXCEED THE AMOUNT YOU PAID FOR THE SERVICE IN THE PRECEDING TWELVE MONTHS (WHICH, FOR A FREE SERVICE, IS ZERO DOLLARS).

11. Disclaimer of Warranties

THE SERVICE IS PROVIDED “AS IS” AND “AS AVAILABLE” WITHOUT WARRANTIES OF ANY KIND, EITHER EXPRESS OR IMPLIED, INCLUDING BUT NOT LIMITED TO WARRANTIES OF MERCHANTABILITY, FITNESS FOR A PARTICULAR PURPOSE, ACCURACY, OR NON-INFRINGEMENT.

12. Changes to Terms

We reserve the right to modify these Terms of Service at any time. Changes will be posted to this page with an updated “Last updated” date. Your continued use of the Service after changes are posted constitutes acceptance of the new terms.

13. Termination

We reserve the right to suspend or terminate access to the hosted Service at any time, with or without notice, for any reason including violation of these terms. Upon termination, your right to use the hosted Service ceases immediately. Self-hosted deployments are subject to the open-source license terms only.

14. Governing Law

These Terms shall be governed by and construed in accordance with applicable law, without regard to conflict of law principles. Any disputes shall be resolved through good-faith negotiation before pursuing formal legal remedies.
